LEONHARD KURZ presents innovative display coating technology at electronica 2024

Fürth/Germany, November 5, 2024: Munich welcomes the world of electronics - from November 12 through 15, 2024, representatives of the international electronics industry will come together at the leading trade fair ‘electronica’ to present technologies, products, and solutions that are set to shape a sustainable and livable future on the way to the All Electric Society. The trade fair will be celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, focusing on AI, automotive, sustainability, and recruitment.

At Stand 301 in Hall B6, LEONHARD KURZ will be presenting numerous highlights for the automotive and home appliances sectors - from innovative display solutions to visionary design concepts for control elements and sophisticated components for the vehicle interior.

New developments in the field of plastic display coatings

One of the highlights of the fair will be the thin-film specialist’s presentation of an innovative display coating technology. Thanks to the newly developed special coating process from KURZ, plastic screens can now be designed with greatly reduced reflection, bringing them closer to glass displays in terms of their appearance. When switched off, the surface appears in a particularly intense deep black. When the display is switched on, a significantly higher contrast is achieved than with conventional plastic panels, making the display impressively sharp. With the new process, KURZ has achieved a breakthrough in the design of plastic displays that enables both a very intense black and an extremely high-quality appearance. Furthermore, the technology is not only suitable for widely used PC panels but can also be used for PMMA displays.

This cost-effective alternative to classic glass surfaces can be combined with KURZ’s proven In-Mold Decoration (IMD) technology, which enables the seamless integration of controls. Ultra-thin touch sensors from KURZ subsidiary PolyIC ensure smart functionalities and convenient touch operation. In addition to classic icons, colorful static images can also be integrated directly into the sensors thanks to PolyTC® Colorful Pictures. With a wide range of design options for shape and appearance, KURZ's innovative coating is suitable for both display applications and traditional decor elements. Visitors to electronica can gain first-hand impressions from various demonstrating devices.

Elegant design and smart technology

Owing to its integrated Swarovski crystals, the futuristic Crystal Steering Wheel design concept, which was created in cooperation with Swarovski Mobility, is another eye-catcher at the KURZ stand. The highly polished crystals are not only designed as visual accents but also serve to control various vehicle functions. This is possible by virtue of transparent touch sensors from PolyIC. The crystals create a wow effect, as their integrated functions are only revealed at second glance. What’s more, their elegant look and visual depth create a high-quality ambience in the interior.

Sophisticated surface design with ams OSRAM

KURZ has joined forces with the experts for innovative lighting and sensor solutions at ams OSRAM to realize a pioneering solution for the automotive interior and exterior designs of tomorrow. Together, the two companies have developed a new process that can be used to efficiently implement ambient lighting effects and integrate mini LEDs. Utilizing this new technology, mini LEDs can be integrated into IMD-finished panels using Functional Foil Bonding (FFB). This makes it possible to achieve a wide range of sophisticated effects - from lighting functions such as brake and indicator lights to individually designed controls with hidden-until-lit technology. Visitors to the KURZ stand can also experience this innovation up close thanks to various demonstrating devices.
